Claire Reeves
Biog
I am a recent graduate of art and design and I am now studying for a MA in Arts Psychotherapy at the Northern Programme in Sheffield. I have a keen interest in the fields of arts in health and community arts.
In my most recent work, a created a series of collages on canvas using old newspapers and magazines, incorporating both the preprinted texts and the graphics. These collages were experiments to help me to develop my collaging techniques and also to build up a narrative within my work. I have composed the collages to resemble stained glass design depicting modern images in the form of religious iconography using pages from glossy magazines to bring out the vivid colours and create the illusion of light.
I use a lot of salvaged items to create my artwork. For example, I have created a series of jewellery using old discarded electrical wire knotted together. I have also used clippings of articles to create jewellery pieces. The articles I chose were mainly of a negative or shocking nature. The resulting jewellery pieces appear to be pretty and decorative at first sight, but a closer look reveals something something that is quite frightening and vicious. The predominant theme that runs through my work is the taking of everyday objects, refuse and garbage that are no longer considered useful and then transforming these things into objects that are eye catching and thought provoking
